Nellie Pipes McArthur ship launching photograph album [graphic], 1943.

Photograph album of Nellie Pipes McArthur, librarian of the Oregon Historical Society, during the ceremonies celebrating the launching of the Liberty ship S. S. Robert Newell on May 2, 1943. McArthur was the sponsor of the ship, which was the 177th built by the Oregon Shipbuilding Corporation during World War II. The album was presented to her by the corporation's director of public relations, Hal Babbitt, in honor of her sponsorship and includes a letter from Babbitt to McArthur, dated May 26, 1943. All of the photographs were taken by Photo Arts Studio of Portland, Or.
